WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wisconsin — A Wisconsin paper mill worker has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting two young men he kept chained at his home.
The judge told 47-year-old Ed Lanphear on Wednesday the sentence virtually ensures he can never commit another crime in his lifetime.
Lanphear apologized to the victims and said he never intended to kill anyone.
Lanphear abducted the men in Wisconsin Rapids in separate incidents last July. Prosecutors say Lanphear preyed on young men who had been drinking and at least once posed as a police officer.
The victims say they were handcuffed, blindfolded, taken to Lanphear's rural home and bound in chains. One escaped naked and ran to a neighbor's house where police were called.
