Raffaele Sollecito… Trapped, In His Own Words

.

When the prosecutors present the forensic evidence, the defence lawyers will do their level best to try and muddy the waters, by claiming that much of the damning forensic evidence is due to contamination.
.
Well, good luck with that one. There is a FAR greater danger for them lurking…
.
We have already described in among other places here and here how Amanda Knox has boxed herself in with her own words.
.
Raffaele Sollecito has done precisely the same. Sollecito has also said things that are demonstrably untrue, and they now seriously haunt him and his team.
.
There is no question that Raffaele Sollecito has deliberately and repeatedly lied. He even himself admitted that he told the police “un sacco di cazzate” (a load of rubbish), and the judges at the Italian Supreme Court noted that he had lied and was reluctant to cooperate.
.
Lie one. Raffaele Sollecito first claimed in an interview with Kate Mansey from the Sunday Mirror that he and Amanda Knox were at a friend’s party on the night of the murder. It would have been obviously a tad difficult for Sollecito to find any witnesses who had attended an imaginary party to provide him and Knox with an alibi. This alibi was predictably abandoned very quickly.
.
Lie two. Sollecito then claimed that he was his apartment with Amanda Knox. This alibi is flatly contradicted by a silent witness: forensic evidence. According to the scientific police, there are six separate pieces of forensic evidence, including an abundant amount of his DNA on Meredith’s bra clasp, that place him in the cottage on Via della Pergola on the night of the murder.
.
Lie three. Sollecito then came up with a third alibi. He claimed that he was alone at his apartment and that Knox had gone out from 9pm to 1am. Both Sollecito and Knox gave completely different accounts of where they were, who they were with and what they doing on the night of the murder. These weren’t small inconsistencies, but huge, whopping lies.
.
Lies four and five. Sollecito and Knox told the postal police that he had called the police before the postal police had turned up at the cottage and were waiting for them. Sollecito later admitted that this was not true and that he had lied because he had believed Amanda Knox’s version of what had happened.
.
He said he went outside “to see if I could climb up to Meredith’s window” but could not. “I tried to force the door but couldn’t, and at that point I decided to call my sister for advice because she is a Carabinieri officer. She told me to dial 112 (the Italian emergency number) but at that moment the postal police arrived. He added: “In my former statement I told you a load of rubbish because I believed Amanda’s version of what happened and did not think about the inconsistencies.” (The Times, 7 November, 2007).
.
Lie six. Knox and Sollecito said they couldn’t remember most of what happened on the night of the murder, because they had smoked cannabis.
.
It is medically impossible for cannabis to cause such dramatic amnesia and there are no studies that have ever demonstrated that this is possible.
.
Long term use of cannabis may affect short-term memory, which means that users might have difficulty recalling a telephone number. But it won’t wipe out whole chunks of an evening from their memory banks.
.
Lie seven. Sollecito claimed that he had spoken to his father at 11pm. Phone records show that there was no telephone conversation at this time. Sollecito’s father called him a couple of hours earlier at 8.40pm.
.
Lie eight. Sollecito claimed that he was surfing the Internet from 11pm to 1am. The Kercher’s lawyer, Franco Maresca, pointed out that credible witnesses had shattered Sollecito’s alibi for the night of the murder. Sollecito still maintains he was home that night, working on his computer, but computer specialists have testified that his computer was not used for an eight-hour period on the night of Meredith’s murder
.
Lie nine. Sollecito claimed that he had slept until 10pm the next day. However, he used his computer at 5.32am and turned on his mobile phone at 6.02am. The Italian Supreme Court remarked that his night was “sleepless” to say the least.
.
Lie ten. When Sollecito heard that the scientific police had found Meredith’s DNA on the double DNA knife in his apartment. He told a cock and bull story about accidentally pricking Meredith’s hand whilst cooking at his apartment.
.
“The fact that Meredith’s DNA is on my kitchen knife is because once, when we were all cooking together, I accidentally pricked her hand.’’ Meredith had never been to Sollecito’s apartment. Sollecito could not have accidentally pricked her hand whilst cooking.
.
It’s highly telling that Sollecito wasn’t surprised that the forensic police had found Meredith’s DNA on the double DNA knife in his apartment. He knew Meredith’s DNA was on the blade, which is why he made up the silly cock and bull story. He was attempting to explain the presence of Meredith’s DNA on the blade, but in doing so, he further incriminated himself and Amanda Knox.
.
Manuela Comodi, the deputy prosecutor, explained during the hearings that the prosecution had not called either Knox or Sollecito as witnesses “because there is no point. Every time they were questioned during the pre-trial investigation they lied or tried to derail the inquiry.”
.
Judge Paolo Micheli, who presided over Rudy Guede fast-track trial and sent Knox and Sollecito to trial, didn’t believe many of their claims. He noted that they had given triple alibis and had lied in attempt to cover for each other.
.
Sollecito’s lawyers claim that he lied out of confusion and fear. However, Sollecito lied from the very first time he spoke to the police when he wasn’t a suspect. His lies cannot be attributed to confusion and fear.
.
Like Amanda, he has boxed himself in.

why arent the other flatmates investigated? What about the boys who lived below? Can the foots prints and shoe prints found belong to one of them? If the place was washed clean, isnt there the possibility that precisely the person who washed it clean, cleaned thier own evidence and only left behind that which belong to others to incriminate them?, such as Sollicito and Amanda? It seems like other possiblities have been ruled out from the begining without really investigating, and someone has decided to incriminate Sollicito, Amanda, and Guede just because that was thier gut feeling and conclusion, without proper investigation. The judge or whoever concluded how the murder happened, claiming a sex game gone wrong, and claiming Amanda cut the neck, Guede raped and Sollicito was holding, how can this conclusion be made so early without even knowing for sure? It surprised me they would have that story out when it was only thier own conclusion but not a proven fact. Maybe one of them or all of them are guilty, but just by the way the case has been handled, making conclusions right from the start and placing guilt on people without knowing what really happen and going to the extent to even describe how the murder happened and even saying who opened the door, it unbelievable. They even said the only person who could have opened the door was Amanda, when it is obvious that Meredith could have opened the door as well. And one single person could have done it all alone, struggling at one moment, strangling in another moment, cutting at another moment and stabing in another moment. Why does it have to be more than one attacker? The person who commited the murder could have tried to get out from the window to avoid beeing seen going out of the room. Maybe afterwards Amanda and Sollicito arrived and saw all the mess and went into Merediths room and while checking on her got stained with blood and went to wash and then tried to cover thier trails, since it was obvious that if they had blood on them, even if it was because they got blood on them after they went to check on Meredith after she was killed by someone else, it was obvious no one would believe them that they had arrived there after Meredith had already been killed, and that is why thier alibis seem like a lie, because they did lie, but not to coverthemselves because they are the murderers, but to cover for themselves because no one would believe they had arrived afterwards. Why doesnt someone get this version circulating and into the court room? of course, this version would be so exciting for those who have already found them guilty right from the start.

I absolutely agree with Anonoymous... what about the other roomates? What about the other cell phone? What about the video camera's that recorded the entrances to the flat? Poor Meredith and her family, police evidence and proper trial procedures are thrown out the window... this beautiful woman deserves a proper trial and investigation into her murder. We/the public/ would very much like some clear answers... not "the media's reliable facts". Please, just let us know what has really took place, people who respect Meredith Kercher deserve an answer.

as an expat american, who know the truth of 911 -not the idiotic lies spread by the mass media and government..., i now am very wary of stories. i look for hard evidence. i haven´t followed this case, but if i were a juror i would want hard evidence to convict them. i do not understand the underpinnings of the sex game/murder story. i don´t understand what it is based on - other than conjecture. what we do seem to have , though, is false statements from the two and actions and behaviors that do lead into the "story" created of the sex murder.
unless they have been able to establish a correct alibi, i have to give the nod - at the moment- to the prosecutors story. but i am always open to new information. i know how incredible a "set-up" can be, like the false story of 911. no, the criminals that did that are still free and still murdering and it is impossible for the world to survive until the situation is resolved.

I supposed that in the trial have more access to accurate information than what the press explain, as sometimes the details change and it is said that devil hides in the detail, so it is very difficult to know the truth.
But one thing that I see is that Knox's smiles are really spooky.

Amanda Knox is a convicted psychopathic killer. She dresses like she's an innocent little girl, which she isn't. She lies, and lies, and lies some more. If she is really intelligent, which can be assumed as she is a 21-year-old polyglot, she would have contacted the police before contacting her parents living thousands of miles away. This phone call was actually the beginning of the whole lied up plot. As well as the phone call from Sollecito to his sister. Her parents should actually start considering that they have a murderer for a daughter. Wonder if that would shock them as much as the conviction. I've not seen one image in which Amanda actually seems at all touched by the whole situation. If Meredith was her friend, why then would Amanda not cry by hearing the news of the cruel murder on this friend of hers? And why does she keep smiling?!? The only real emotion she showed was the shock of hearing her own conviction. Why? Because that means she lost the game, and she just cannot accept that. It has nothing to do with remorse or anything. I can only say that if you meet this girl, never trust what she says, and be cautious and alert at all times.

susan smith said someone had killed her children to divert attention from herself. amanda knox said her former boss had killed meredith. i only have 1 question for ms knox et al- why would you tell a lie like that on an innocent man if you are this poor innocent soul, so maligned by the italian press & justice system?

Personally, I don't think I would cry if my friend died. I also know there a lot of people don't cry at funerals. Personally, I think that the vast majority of people don't cry at funerals, and I wonder where the general population gets this idea that when someone dies, if you do anything normal like hugging your boyfriend, it's "weird." When someone dies, you have to continue on with your life. If that means shopping for groceries, or, in this case, shopping for underwear, then by all means shop for underwear. Acting casual does not in any way seem remotely weird to me...to me, a friend acting overly-emotional would have been weirder.

...oh yeah, And I know I'm going to get a lot of slack for this, but lying, although bad, does not make you "evil." Killing makes you evil. I guess I am just sick of hearing all this, "She lied. Therefore she's an evil person."

What is a 'double DNA knife' - are you confusing the double helix of DNA and a double bladed knife? Or are you referring to DNA being found at both ends of the knife? This is the first I have heard of Solecito's early statements and his response to being told of Meredith's DNA being found on a knife in his kitchen. It may be this response and these statements that finally end up convicting Solecito if the forensic evidence is found to be unreliable in the appeal process. Surely he is too intelligent to give answers like these if he is innocent of any wrongdoing. The taped conversations with his father also made him appear to be hiding something when he said that his position depended on what other witnesses like Rudy Guede might say about him and Amanda. If you are innocent it doesn't matter what others who were known to be at the scene might say. If anything, Rudy Guede appears to be the only one who could be innocent of murder as he has been more straight forward with his description of what happened that night. He certainly was all over Meredith that night and I don't believe she let him in or was a willing participant. Amanda's testimonies have overshadowed those of Solecito's in the media reporting.

After reading the 'perugiamurderfile' Harry Rag referred to I am better informed than ever and can see that the media have taken some liberties in their reporting. I can now answer my own question above. The 'double-DNA knife' does indeed refer to Meredith's DNA and Amanda's DNA being found on the blade and the handle of Raffaele's kitchen knife. I hope the decision of the Appeal process will be translated too. I don't think any judge or jury will change their minds on the guilt of Raffaele and Amanda after their changing their evidence or lying. But the forensic DNA evidence will be severely tested if it cannot be reproduced because of insufficient samples as some of the 'low copy' DNA results are weak. The fact that the laboratory was or is not accredited I.e. 'ISO 9001 compliant' in this day and age is unbelievable. The victim deserves better but I don't think these two will get away with it and when Rudy Guede is freed after after 15 or 16 years in gaol, they will wish they had been more repentant and told the truth to let Meredith's family know what happened to her. They would then be able to bear the sentence and to make the most of the life that they still have.
