CARTHAGE, Mo.-- A Carthage man who is a suspect in his son's death has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of making a false report to police. The Joplin Globe reports that Eddie A. Salazar entered the plea today in Jasper County Circuit Court.
.
Police have said the 29-year-old Salazar is the only suspect in the death of his 8-month-old son, Eddie Salazar Jr. The infant's body was discovered Saturday in a river east of Carthage.
.
Police say Salazar originally told police that two masked men broke into his home, beat him up and took his son.
.
The Jasper County prosecutor has said he will wait to file more charges until he receives the results of an autopsy on the child. Investigators have not said how the boy died. Salazar is being held in the Jasper County Jail on $100,000 bond.
