.The body of an infant boy found in a river east of Carthage, Mo., is believed to be Eddie Salazar Jr., an 8-month-old reported missing by his father, Eddie Salazar Sr., 28, who was being held in the Carthage city jail on charges of filing a false police report.

Salazar on Thursday reported to police that two men in ski masks had broken into his Carthage home, beat him and kidnapped his son. The report led to an Amber Alert, with teams of police and others searching for the missing infant on Friday...

Jasper County Sheriff Archie Dunn said Missouri State Water Patrol officers searched the Spring River, east of Carthage, in a boat and spotted the boy’s body wedged behind a tree.
