Cindy Anthony Denies Investigation At Standstill

ORLANDO -- While Orange County Sheriff's authorities say they will remain tightlipped about details of the search for Caylee Anthony, the girl's grandmother spoke Wednesday about a number of issues surrounding the search for her granddaughter.

Despite claims of a "cold trail" in the search for Caylee, Cindy Anthony said she does not believe the search is at a standstill.

"I don't think the investigation is at a standstill at all. I was just there today seeing the inner workings of stuff, like I have all week, and it's not at a standstill at all. I mean, they're following up on leads and tips every second of every day, working 24 hours a day on this.
There may be things they can't talk to you guys about, which is a given. So, it may seem like a standstill to you guys because you don't have any new, additional information," Cindy Anthony said.

So far, no one has been charged in the disappearance of Caylee, but her mother, Casey does remain behind bars on child neglect charges.

Cindy Anthony said she hasn't seen her daughter in more than three weeks, but she feels confident Casey is working in the best interest of Caylee.

"As far as I know, because I haven't gotten to speak with Casey privately, I believe she's told them everything she could possibly tell them to ensure the safety of Caylee. So, naturally, we encourage her all the time if she has any additional information to share. Again, she does not know where Caylee is at, and that is the problem," Anthony said.

Rumors have been swirling about the possibility that investigators are treating this, not as a missing persons case, but as a murder case. On Wednesday, Cindy responded to those accusations, saying they're just plain wrong.

"I haven't heard that theory. Out of their mouths today, to me, all of them, they're looking for a missing child, and that's what I'm doing, I'm looking for a missing child, and that's what I'm asking the public to do is to look for that missing child, because she's out there missing and there's no evidence that says otherwise, and until that happens, she's missing. I believe that with 100 percent of my being that she's out there and there's a lot of people who believe that, and that's the way the investigation is going," Anthony said.

Authorities have received more than 1,000 tips since Anthony was reported missing in July. She turned 3 on Saturday.

Meanwhile, newly obtained phone records are shedding some new light on some key dates in the case.

According to FOX News, which got the records, Casey Anthony made 12 calls in the span of four hours on June 16. That's the day Caylee's grandfather George says he last saw the now 3-year-old.

Seven of those calls were to her mother. The rest were to her dad, boyfriend, and two friends.
There were no records obtained from June 17 -- the day neighbors told investigators Casey borrowed a shovel from them.

On June 18, there was another spike in calls from Casey to her parents. She called them six times in under an hour.

If these are accurate, it could help piece together a timeline of the final days before the girl vanished without a trace.

Casey's parents still have a visit on the schedule for Thursday morning. As of now, it's not known if George or Cindy will cancel on their daughter, or if Casey will agree to see them. All recent visits from family members have been scrapped.

Casey's attorney has said that's because everyone knows the calls are recorded and that they don't want to put Caylee's safety in danger by saying something they shouldn't. No family members have spoken with Casey since word came out last week she lied about getting calls from the nanny who allegedly has Caylee.

Orange County investigators said today that they are the only credible source of information in the case of missing 3-year-old Caylee Marie Anthony.

"The Orange County Sheriff's Office is not going to put information out there that's not going to benefit finding the child," said Chief Mark Strobridge.

Authorities made the statement during a "roundtable session" with reporters in Orlando to recap details of a case that's received intense media coverage and sparked various theories.

This morning, the grandmother of missing 3-year-old met with officials at the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Cindy Anthony left without telling reporters what was discussed, though she and her husband have made surprising statements to the media in the past.

Today also marks the 28th day since her daughter, Casey Anthony, has been locked up in the jail.Authorities booked her on charges of child neglect, a felony, and filing a false statement, a misdemeanor.

Casey Anthony, 22, remains there until she can post a $500,000 bail.

She is living alone in a 7-by-12-foot cell in the county's female detention center.Jail officials say she spends most of her days reading books from the jail library and sleeping. She is not allowed to have pen and paper.

In addition to her legal team, Anthony's family can visit her. The jail does not allow face-to-face contact with the public.

Visitation -- limited to three a week -- is done through live video, and participants talk by phone. However, Anthony has refused to see her family for the past several visits -- including her parents Sunday night. She gave no reason.

Her brother, Lee, canceled a visit Tuesday. Like his sister, he gave no reason.

Her parents are scheduled to visit again Thursday. Jail officers will ask her that day whether she wants to see them.

Wichita Kansas: Motorists claim they were sold watered-down gas

Now THIS would really make me mad...

WICHITA, Kansas, August 12, 2008 -- Water and oil don't mix. Dozens of Wichita drivers are learning that the hard way, after they say at least one filling station in town, sold them watered-down gas.

The Weber's Toyota RAV 4 is only two years old. So, when it started sputtering, shaking, and then stalled this weekend the couple was baffled.

"I was just really aggravated, and we didn't know what was going on,” said Heather Weber. “We never had any problems with the car whatsoever."

The couple had to have their car towed to the dealership and that's where they found out the gas they had bought the day before had water in it.

"When it was tested we had 75 percent water ratio, you're supposed to have no water at one time,” she said. “So, basically we paid for straight water to be pushed into our tank."

Auto shops across town report seeing the same problem in just the last two days.

"We had six vehicles that were towed into us due to water being mixed into the fuel, the vehicles wouldn't run," said Eddy’s Toyota Service Manager Brian Tripp.

Weber says they bought the gas at the Kwik Shop at 21st and Webb Road Sunday afternoon. A spokesperson for the company refused to answer questions and said simply “no comment."

But Weber says the company has offered to reimburse her for all expenses.

Right now, the bill is about $400 to have her car fixed. The water likely won't cause any major engine damage.

"It won't damage it necessarily, this more or less causes problems, it'll die on you, you'll have to have it towed in, have the fuel tank pumped out,” said Tripp.

Still, the Webers wish when they paid $3.50 for a gallon of gas, they wouldn't have gotten water.

Austria: Josef Fritzl :Dungeon man faces slavery charge

VIENNA, Austria (AP) -- A prosecutor says Josef Fritzl, the man who held his daughter captive for 24 years in a cellar and fathered seven children with her, may be charged with slavery.
St. Poelten prosecutor Gerhard Sedlacek also says authorities hope to have formal charges -- likely to include a series of crimes -- ready by the end of September and that a trial would likely begin in December.

Investigators say Fritzl confessed to taking his daughter Elisabeth prisoner when she was 18, sexually abusing her and fathering seven children with her, including one whose body he allegedly tossed into a furnace.

They say subsequent DNA tests confirmed he is the surviving children's biological father.
