COWLEY COUNTY, Kansas, August 4, 2008 – The Cowley County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the disappearance of 87-year-old Jack Lee Howe.
Howe was reported missing by his neighbor Sunday and had not been seen since Noon on Friday. His children, who live out of state, were notified and told authorities they had not heard from him recently and do not know of his whereabouts.
Howe’s pick-up truck was found abandoned on a railroad right of way south of Caldwell, KS.
He is described at 87 years old, 5’8” tall, about 100 pounds, very thin build, gray hair, brown eyes and usually wears glasses. He was last seen wearing very light colored blue jeans, a red long sleeve shirt and light colored suspenders.
Howe has recently become forgetful and sometimes confused and may be starting to suffer from dementia.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Cowley County Sheriffs Office at 620-221-5444 or the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office at 620-326-8941.

Jack is my grandfather. I have sent photos of him to as many news agencies as I can think of, but I guess I missed the Praire Chicken! I will include a link back to my flickr account where I have posted a photo of him and links to all the online news articles I have managed to find so far. Feel free to download the flickr photo and use it in whatever manner you see fit to help him be found. He has been missing for over 72 hours now. We are hoping and praying that someone out there has seen him, and will contact the local law enforcement with some helpful information.
Many thanks to everyone out there that is working so hard to find him, and the news agencies and bloggers that are getting his story out there where it can be seen.
Luann, I'm so sorry. I'm in Derby, and would get out and help look for him if I was able. I looked for an update this morning hoping he was found safe overnight. I'll repeat my post later. Good luck and God Bless.
