EL DORADO - After Bill Moore calmly pleaded guilty Tuesday to killing an Andover woman five years ago, Doug Mould talked of the wife and mother he and his three children lost.

“There is no closure in these sorts of situations,” Mould said of the loss of his wife, Carol, in a violent attack in their home...


Moore, 56, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder.

Had he gone to trial, Moore faced first-degree murder and life in prison.

...Moore could face nearly 13 years when he returned for sentencing May 10.

Mould, 46, was found dead in her burning house, just off K-254, on Sept. 22, 2004...

Then last May 20, paramedics received a call that Moore was suicidal at his home. “I killed Carol Mould,” Moore told paramedic Dom Domebo...

During his confession, Moore said that he knew Mould because their sons served together in Boy Scouts. Moore said he went to her house hoping to have sex with her.

Under the plea agreement, Moore will not be able to appeal his sentence...

So what will Butler County Attorney Jan Satterfield decide what to do about the disappearance of Adam Herrman? It is pretty clear that Valerie Herrman killed him, and Doug Herrman has kept his yap shut all these years.

If Carol Mould's murderer can walk in 13 years, will Satterfield even bother to charge the Herrmans? Could it be she's scared to proceed? Valerie Herrmans own family is willing to testify against her. What's stopping the filing of charges?

Maybe we need to just wait until Satterfield can get voted out and replaced by someone who knows the job. My own opinion.

EMT: Bill Moore confessed to Carol Mould’s killing, El Dorado, Kansas

EL DORADO - An emergency medical technician testified this morning in Butler County District Court that Bill Moore confessed in May to killing Carol Mould five years earlier.

Dom Domebo testified at a preliminary hearing...that he was called to Moore's house in Benton on May 20.

Domebo found Moore despondent and saying he wanted to hurt his wife. Domebo said he assured Moore he would be taken care of, and prepared to take him to a Wichita hospital for a mental evaluation.

As the ambulance pulled away from the house, Domebo said Moore told him, ''I killed Carol Mould.''

Mould was a neighbor of his in Benton, Domebo heard Moore say. She was found dead after a fire at her house on Sept. 22, 2004.

Moore, 55, was a Boy Scout leader with no criminal history before his arrest last spring.

BUTLER COUNTY, Kansas – A Butler County man has officially been charged with first degree murder in the 2004 death of Benton resident Carol Mould.

Moore was charged in May for the murder, which took place in September 2004.

KSN has learned that Moore told his wife that he was worried about harming her and asked her to call someone. She called 911 and emergency crews arrived at their home around 11:20 p.m. – about an hour and 20 minutes before he was arrested.

Moore’s bond has been set at $250,000.

EL DORADO - William "Bill" Wherry Moore -- a former Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader and Benton-area youth-sports coach -- looked distressed as he sat in shackles Friday and a judge read the charge against him: Premeditated murder in the first degree in the September 2004 killing of Carol Mould, a 43-year-old wife and mother of three.

The prosecutor, Butler County Attorney Jan Satterfield, told District Judge John Sanders that she was requesting that Moore remain in jail under a $250,000 bond because of the nature of the charge and concern that he could pose a threat to himself and others, including his wife.
Satterfield said Moore -- a 55-year-old aircraft worker (Cessna), according to a jail booking sheet -- has no criminal history.

Sanders set Moore's bond at $250,000 and appointed a public defender for him. Sanders said he was aware that Moore's "mental state" has been a concern but didn't elaborate.

On Sept. 22, 2004, authorities responding to a report of a fire found Mould's badly burned body in her Benton-area home off K-254. Authorities have not said how she died but have said her body was set on fire after she was killed. The fire didn't destroy the house.

The Mould house sits a couple miles from Moore's rural Benton home. Butler County Sheriff Craig Murphy announced that early that morning his investigators arrested Moore in Mould's killing.

Moore's wife, Tammy, said, "You can print that my husband is having a nervous breakdown, and he does not know what he is saying. My husband is not a murderer."

Neither Murphy nor Satterfield said what prompted the arrest.

After Moore's court appearance Friday, Mould's husband, Doug, said he wanted to thank investigators for "working extraordinarily hard in trying to solve Carol's case."
He also thanked Circle school district staff for supporting his children...

BUTLER COUNTY, Kansas - After years of waiting for word on what happened to Carol Mould, for friends and family, the news of a break in the case hit them like a bolt out of the blue Thursday.

Carol Mould's mother and son listened in on a press conference announcing the news that an arrest has finally been made in her murder. It's been nearly five years since she was killed. Her son wasn't expecting to hear police had finally cracked the case when his father called him early Thursday morning and told him to come home. "Shock - you just don't expect that," said Richard Mould, Carol's son.

Mould's mother, Joanne Stackley, says after the case grew cold she was surprised she lived long enough to see an arrest made in her daughter's murder. But she says an arrest alone won't bring her closure.

"I suppose I should stand here and say I'm happy it's all over with, but it isn't because you stop and think we don't know this man did anything until he's convicted," Joanne said.

In the tiny town of Benton everyone either knew Carol Mould or knows someone she's related to. They say this case has always been in the back of residents' minds and they're relieved someone is finally locked up for her murder.

"Finally, finally -- the family deserves to know," said Benton resident Lynn Ghormley. "That's a good thing."

"She was such a nice person," said resident Linda Walker. "It was such a shock to everyone it happened. She's greatly missed."

Some in Benton were worried as more time passed it was less likely anyone was ever going to be arrested for the crime. Now, they'll be watching closely to see if the case results in a conviction.

– A fire turned murder – turned cold case mystery.

Wichita, Kansas - Thursday afternoon family members confirmed to KSN an arrest has been made in the murder of Carol Mould.

Butler County Sheriff Craig Murphy said during a news conference Thursday that a 55-year-old Bulter County man has been arrested for the murder.

It was 2004 that 43-year-old Carol Mould’s body was found inside her Benton home. Someone had set fire to the body, destroying most of the evidence.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Department put a plea out for tips and offered a reward for information in the case.

Officials say the man will be formally charged in court Friday.

NO NAME?? Augh! It is time we find out the truth about Carol's death. She had been out in the yard mowing grass the last time she was seen. When the house was reported on fire, Carol was found inside.

In 2004, Dennis Rader, the local serial killer was suspected by many as her murder for some time. But when he was caught, he couldn't shut up, bragging about all the people he killed and how he did it, but no Carol Mould.
