Lawyer Gloria Allred slammed Octo Mom Nadya Suleman for treating her preemie babies "as props" during a Wednesday afternoon press conference.

Allred represents Angels in Waiting, which had provided free nursing care for Suleman's 14 children until she fired them earlier this week for allegedly spying on her and reporting her to child welfare officials.

Allred said Suleman "violated agreements in the best interests of the children" by announcing when the babies would be released -- causing a media frenzy -- and then by allowing video crew to feed and hold the babies. Anyone but her...

Suleman "always had an excuse" why she couldn't feed her babies, Allred continued, saying that she only spent eight hours in the nursery, and one went "days without being bathed." (Earlier on the Today Show, Allred claimed Suleman only cares about her babies "when the cameras are rolling.")

Oftentimes, "Nadya would come back from shopping and not even visit the nursery," Allred went on.

Allred e-mailed her concerns to Dr. Phil McGraw Sunday morning. Shortly after, she received a letter from Suleman's attorney terminating Angels in Waiting's service.

Also during the press conference: Allred alleged that Suleman's home was not secure enough to keep trespassers away. Octo Mom said she couldn't afford security, but Angels in Waiting president Linda Conforti-West said she was paying to install a jacuzzi tub and expensive dishwasher.

Another nurse with the charity, Jackie Peebles, said the nursing staff Suleman hired to replace Angels in Waiting had language barriers, three tested positive for Tuberculosis and others had "terrible coughs."

Peebles added: "The lack of parenting skills was evident."

In a statement released to Usmagazine.com, Allred said Suleman created a "dangerous environment."

"Nadya has decided to have Kaiser Permanente [Hospital] care for her babies. In other words, she has apparently made a conscious decision to put the burden of her babies care on the tax payers, since her lawyer Jeff has conceded publicly that Kaiser nurses will most likely have to bill [Medicare]," Allred 's statement continued. Angels in Waiting worked on a donation-basis.

"We wish the best for Nadya and these babies and their six siblings, but we can now only pray to God, that Nadya's poor choices, money making schemes, and improper priorities will not result in irreparable harm to any or all of her children in the future," Allred's statement added.

Friday night Nadya Suleman's second publicist quit, Saturday she gave (sold?) an interview to syndicated entertainment show "The Insider" and took them to see her octuplets, and now she's buying a house with all the money she has coming in from her website and selling interviews and images.

According to the interview, her older six kids aren't handling the eight new kids well, saying they are, "Externalizing their anger. Internalizing it. They become more withdrawn and get a little more sad."

She also touched on her still-unknown sperm donor, saying she paid him a "certain amount of money."

Late Monday TMZ reported that she will close on a house this week.

It's located in La Habra, near where OctoGrandma lives now. It has four bedrooms and three bathrooms, a large master bedroom with a walk-in closet and a large backyard. It's listed for $564,900.

THE INSIDER visited with Nadya Suleman at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Bellflower, CA on Saturday, March 7th, to see how all eight octuplets are doing, for a new interview to air tonight, March 9th and tomorrow, March 10th.

Nadya tells THE INSIDER how the two smallest octuplets are today, "Josiah is still feeding from a tube that's where he gets his milk. But he's stable, just still really little, just two pounds. Jonah is the littlest one. He's also got a feeding tube but he's doing amazing, negative in all his tests.

Brain scan, everything is perfect. He's actually 2 and a half pounds already so that's wonderful. I cried a little when I saw him because he wasn't with this other siblings on the other side. Give it a week, two weeks. He's so strong, so I'm happy, That's all that matters."

When asked if she paid the father of the octuplets for his sperm donation, Nadya says, "A certain amount of money... not too much but just enough so he knew that there were boundaries there. I wanted those boundaries to be really firm and know that this is a business arrangement."

On if the octuplets will experience delays in their development, she says, "There will most likely be delays. Delayed walking and delayed speech, but that's where early intervention is key. It's really critical, and that's why I'm going to do what I can. That's also why I'll be getting a lot of help. The nannies that I'm going to use have already been trained to really work with them to decrease the probability of any of that happening."

Nadya tells THE INSIDER how her older children are handling the birth of the octuplets, "Externalizing their anger. Internalizing it. They become more withdrawn and get a little more sad. One of my kids for a while, I noticed he didn't want to deal with the reality of what's going on. I noticed some tears coming down his face. I held him for ten minutes and he held me back and that's all he needed."

She also revealed the current weight of all octuplets: Nariah: 3.5 lbs, Makai: 3.5 lbs, Jeremiah: 3.5 lbs, Jonah: 2.5, Josiah: 2.5 lbs, Noah: 4.5 lbs, Isaiah: 4.5 lbs, Maliah: 4 lbs.

The Southern California mother of octuplets may have found a new home.

Prudential Realty listing agent Mike Patel said Ed Doud, Nadya Suleman's father, is the purchaser of the 2,583-square-foot house in the city of La Habra, and the deal is expected to close on Friday.

The four-bedroom, three-bath home was listed for $564,900, and has a large master bedroom with a walk-in closet and a large, fenced-in backyard. (Still, is this enough room for 14 children and 3 adults? Nadya/Natalie will no doubt want the master suite, a room for Grams and Gramps, that leaves 2 bedrooms for 14 children. Not enough.)

Suleman lives in a Whittier, Calif., home that is owned by her mother, but is being foreclosed on because the family is more than $20,000 behind in mortgage payments. I wonder if they have paid this off so they can sell it instead of letting the bank have it back.

Octomom Nadya Suleman and her 14 kids are soon to be homeless. Documents state that Suleman’s mother, Angela Suleman, has fallen 10 months behind in payments for her 3-bedroom home in Whittier, California and owes the mortgage company $23,225.

In 2006, Angela borrowed $453,750 from IndyMac Bank, agreeing to make monthly payments on her loan, but last May she stopped making the payments. In 2008, Angela filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy, claiming she has between $500,000 and $1,000,000 in liabilities. The bankruptcy case was later dismissed.

Extra caught up with Suleman and asked her about the house where she responded:
“It’s not my home. I got to move. Yeah, I need a new house...”

Of course, since her father is buying the new house, it's not hers either. And it is "only" $111K more than the house they already beat up. I hope the new one will be kept cleaner than the other grimy one.

'Octomom' spawns bills limiting embryo implants

ATLANTA (AP) -- Lawmakers in two states, outraged by California's "Octomom," are seeking to limit the number of embryos that may be implanted by fertility clinics.

The legislation in Missouri and Georgia is intended to spare taxpayers from footing the bill for women having more children than they can afford. But critics say the measures also would make having even one child more difficult for women who desperately want to become mothers.

"What they are proposing is a cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all approach," said Dr. Andrew Toledo, medical director of the Atlanta-based Reproductive Biology Associates. "Not every couple and not every patient is the same."

Infertility doctors argue that decisions on how many embryos to transfer should be left up to medical experts familiar with a patient's individual circumstances.

Debate has raged since Nadya Suleman gave birth to octuplets in Bellflower, Calif., on Jan. 26. She has six other children, lives in her mother's three-bedroom home and has relied on food stamps and disability income to provide for her family.

"It's unforgivable," said Ralph Hudgens, a state senator who is sponsoring the Georgia bill. "This woman already has six children. She's unemployed, and she's going and having 14 children on the backs of the taxpayers of the state of California."

Hudgens, a Republican, has proposed legislation that would allow no more than two embryos to be implanted at any one time in a woman younger than 40. For women older than 40, the legislation would limit the number of embryos to three to account for increased difficulty getting pregnant.

Supporters say the measure is needed to rein in lucrative baby-making businesses often more concerned with success rates and profit than with ethics.

Hudgens, a Republican, agreed to sponsor the bill after being approached by the Georgia Right to Life group. The proposal comes up for a hearing Thursday before the Senate's Health and Human Services Committee.

Supporters say the bill would cut down on the number of unused embryos. But opponents argue that would severely limit the options of women paying $10,000 to $15,000 for each fertility cycle.

In Missouri, a bill seeks to enact guidelines from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. The guidelines include a recommended number of embryos that should be implanted in a woman based on her age and prognosis for a successful pregnancy.

In most cases, the society calls for two or three embryos, though women older than 40 could be implanted with up to five.

"It's just not a good thing to be having that many multiple births if you can avoid it," said Missouri state Rep. Rob Schaaf, a family physician who sponsored the bill. "I'm just simply saying keep the risk down."

The legislative efforts concern Bernita Malloy, a federal prosecutor in Atlanta who said she would not have been able to have her 20-month-old daughter, Makenzie, under the proposed law. It took 25 eggs and three in-vitro cycles for her to conceive one child.

"They are legislating based on a knee-jerk reaction," Malloy said. "What they don't get is every embryo doesn't make a baby. This bill is devastating."

Legal experts say limiting a woman's right to procreate raises constitutional concerns.
"I think it raises huge legal questions," said Ruth Claiborne, an Atlanta lawyer specializing in family law and infertility issues. "There are individual legal interests in procreation, and I think you would almost certainly see this challenged (in the courts)."

The American Society for Reproductive Medicine guidelines are not binding, but doctors do answer to individual state licensing boards.

"This is an unregulated industry that is driven by money," said David Prentice, senior fellow for life sciences at the conservative Family Research Center.

Toledo, of the Atlanta reproductive group, said reproductive specialists are being tarnished by the actions of the doctor in California who implanted Suleman with six fertilized embryos. She went on to have octuplets after two of the embryos presumably split.

The Medical Board of California said last week it was looking into the Suleman case to see if there was a "violation of the standard of care."

According to reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 20 percent of clinics nationwide follow the guidelines. For women under 35, the reports show that just 83 of 426 clinics followed the guidance calling for no more than two embryos.

Nadya Suleman opened up to Dr. Phil and said that implanting more embryos was a "mistake." At last!

On the Dr. Phil show, octomom Nadya Suleman finally admitted that having eight more children when she could barely take care of the six she already had may not have been the best idea. "In hindsight, I don't know what I was thinking," she says.

But Nadya tried to convince Dr. Phil and America that she has a plan for her babies once they come home. "The plan is definitely underway," she says, adding that she intends to live on her student loans. "I'm just not there yet."

She also says she will rely on volunteers to help her take care of the babies. Right...see below.

Octomom Nadya Suleman has said no thanks to attorney Gloria Allred's offer to help her take care of all 14 of her children.

Allred and the charity Angels in Waiting announced last week they wanted to provide 24/7 medical care, physical therapy, occupational therapy and a home for the octomom and her brood of 14.

Allred said volunteers and medical personnel would care for the babies morning, noon and night in eight-hour shifts ... but gave Suleman a deadline of midnight yesterday to accept the deal. Obviously -- she has not.



Allred and Linda Conforti, the nurse who the founded Angels in Waiting, had several a long conversations with Nadya on the phone and arranged a meeting to discuss the offer -- and Nadya never showed.

They say Nadya was more interested in "capitalizing on her family" and getting a reality show than she was with getting care for the newborns and her other children. When Allred and Angels in Waiting refused to help get her a TV deal, they say Suleman stopped communicating with them.

Allred says she's already filed a complaint with the Department of Child and Family Services and she plans on following up. Wow--I guess you don't tell Gloria no!

On the face of it, Casey Anthony, charged with first degree murder, and Nadya Suleman, mother of octuplets plus six, don't seem to have much in common.

One had trouble parenting one child and the other has an almost obsessive desire to have multiple children -- despite having no means to support them.

They are both, in their own ways, examples of motherhood gone haywire, and people...can't seem to get enough of their bizarre stories.

"The public's fascination with aberrant behavior," says public relations expert Michael Levin, "makes us feel better about ourselves." Does it take the worst possible examples of motherhood to give us confidence in our own parenting capabilities?

A rep from the National Organization for Women says the enormous pressures of motherhood could be a factor in our interest: "Society and the media put the burden of parenting on the mother, whether you're talking about crime stories or who's getting marketed to in commercials. .
"Whatever the reason, following the plight of women in peril makes for a strange guilty pleasure. Could it be their common denominators that make Nadya and Casey's stories so compelling?

Irregular views of motherhood

Casey, it seems, never wanted to be a mother. Her mother Cindy reportedly wouldn't let Casey have an abortion or even put Caylee up for adoption. The result was tragic. Nadya Suleman says her desire to have many children stemmed from her being a lonely only child.

Dysfunctional relationships with their mothers

Nadya's mother has repeatedly voiced her dismay over the fact that her daughter insisted on having the octupets via IVF treatments when she already had six children at home. They've even been filmed arguing about Nadya's refusal to implement "selective reduction" of her implanted embryos.

Cindy Anthony, Casey's mom, has been accused of treating Caylee as if she were her own daughter. Rumor has it the rift between Casey and Cindy began when Cindy was the first to hold her new granddaughter in the delivery room, not Casey.

Going it alone

With the extraordinary challenge single mothers face, Nadya Suleman has upped the ante to ridiculous proportions. With no man in her life, the "father" of her children is a sperm donor / former boyfriend. Casey also raised Caylee alone -- albeit with much family support. No one knows for sure who Caylee's father was -- the family has always maintained he was killed in a car accident.

Freeloading and lying

One sponges off her family and one off of the government. And both lie about how they supported themselves. Casey claimed to be employed at Universal Studios as an event coordinator -- to explain away her late nights out partying. Nadya told Ann Curry on "Today" that she is "not on welfare," although it was later revealed she receives both food stamps and state disability payments.

Obsessed with their looks

Nadya Suleman, even before giving birth to octopulets, had six mouths to feed. But somehow she still managed to spend money on what appears to be plastic surgery. Casey, when she was supposed to be searching for her missing daughter, entered herself in a "Hot Body Contest" at a local bar.

I have to wonder where is Angelina Jolie in all this mess? Nadya is known to have written letters to the star who is obsessed with the baby business as well. Nadya's alledged plastic surgery appears to have been an attempt to look like her. Angie wants racially diverse children, one Cambodian, one Vietnamese, one African, one single bio and then bio twins.

Angie could adopt four of these, who are half Iraqi (from Nadya's heritage) and half Isreali (from the babies-daddy Denis Beaudoin). Not only would that be a interesting combination in the current state of the world, but that would add four latitude/longitude tattoo's of the same numbers on her left arm. No need to ask Brad--he doesn't have the nads to get a vote.

But she is equally disfunctional. She went from Goth, sex addict/bisexual who publicly announced she was in love with her brother, to baby collector, so the kids might adjust well.
At least she has the money to hire others to raise them.

Could he be the octo-dad?

An ex-boyfriend of octuplet mom Nadya Suleman says he could be the father of her 14 kids - and wants a DNA test to prove it.

Denis Beaudoin told ABC's "Good Morning America" he dated Suleman from 1997 to 1999 and made at least three sperm donations to help her get pregnant.

"She really wanted to have kids," he said. "She asked me to donate sperm. I thought it was kind of out of the ordinary, but I cared about her so much, and we were in love."

Beaudoin said Suleman told him she had ovarian cancer and wanted to get pregnant right away. "She came out and told me if she wants to have kids, she has to have them now," he said.

He thought the donations would be part of "starting a family" together. But after they broke up, he had no idea whether Suleman, now 33, had gone through with in vitro fertilization until he called her three or four years ago.

"I heard kids crying in the background," he said. "And I go, 'Who's that?' She said, 'Those are my babies.'"

Suleman ended the conversation before Beaudoin could ask if he was the father, and he said she hasn't responded to his calls since she gave birth to octuplets Jan. 23.

She denied to ABC that he was the dad, saying all 14 kids were fathered by a platonic friend she has already notified.

But Beaudoin doesn't buy it.

"I can't take everything she says for granted," he told GMA. "I would like a DNA test."
Beaudoin, a married business owner in his 30s with two sons of his own, said he had no inkling Suleman was planning such a large family, and reacted with "shock, disbelief" when he heard about the octuplets' birth.

"This is something that's all new," he said. "It never came up to have such a huge family. It was just an urge to have a child because of not being able to."

Beaudoin said he barely recognizes the ex-girlfriend his pals nicknamed Giggles for her "infectious laugh." He showed snapshots and notes from their time together, calling her "a really great girl."

"She looks different, sounds different," he said. "She's just not the Nadya I remember."

Beaudoin said he would accept paternal responsibility if tests show he's the dad - and even if not, he said he's ready to help raise the kids because he doesn't think she can do it on her own.

"Whether or not it is or it isn't, I still extend my hand in help," he said. "She needs help. I mean it's hard. It's hard nowadays to raise two kids, let alone 14 kids."

There are many new tidbits being learned about octuplet mom Nadya Suleman and the fertility doctor who allegedly implanted her with six embryos.

Despite the strain of having fourteen children, Suleman went out for a manicure Friday and spent at least part of Wednesday shopping for video games, as seen in a photo obtained by TMZ. The site also unearthed documents showing Suleman failed to pay multiple parking tickets and had her minivan booted two years ago.

Nadya has reportedly put a gag order on her mother Angela, with whom she has lived and who has cared for her six older children, after Angela accepted money for a videotaped interview. Nadya's publicist Joann Killeen said:

"I had to put a gag on Nadya's mother, who sold her out to RadarOnline. They paid her $40,000 to sell [Nadya] out and she can't talk about her daughter for three months."...
She also believes Nadya Suleman's days in maternity wards are over.

"There's nothing left in the frozen vault," Killeen says. "There's nothing left to defrost."
A church is also hitting out against Suleman, saying that, despite reports, they do not know Nadya and are not helping her find a home. The released a statement saying part (bolding HuffPo's):

Nadya Suleman has recently commented she attends Calvary Chapel Golden Springs, which prompted several media follow up inquires concerning her attendance. Since our church is not membership-driven, we are unable to confirm or deny whether she actively attends this fellowship.

Suleman's doctor is now under additional scrutiny about a woman in her late 40s who already had three children, but wanted just one with her new, younger husband: A few months after Dr. Michael Kamrava helped Nadya Suleman become pregnant with octuplets, he transferred at least seven embryos to another patient...

Now she's five months pregnant with quadruplets and hospitalized at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, according to several sources familiar with the situation.

The woman in the latest case arrived recently at Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles for unspecified treatment but was transferred last week to County-USC Medical Center because she lacks insurance.

Suleman’s father Edward is from Iraq and works in Iraq as a translator or driver to support his wife, daughter and grandchildren. Suleman claimed she had a lonely, dysfunctional childhood as an only child, and she always wanted a big family from the time she was a teen...she grew up with the undivided financial resources of her parents, was a an above-average student and a cheerleader in high school, and has lived with her parents since January 2000.

Nadya Suleman obtained a psychiatric tech license and began a career at Metropolitan State Hospital in 1997. Her career was short-lived because she was hurt at work during what is described as a riot in November 1999, suffering a back injury which she has milked for 10 years.

She was dating and ultimately married a man named Marcos Gutierrez from August 1996 to January 2000. The couple completed a divorce in January 2008, and the divorce papers stated there were no children as a result of the marriage. Marcos Gutierrez is not the sperm donor for any of Suleman’s children...

IVF is not a Kaiser benefit; that treatment occurred in Beverly Hills at the West Coast IVF Clinic owned by Dr. Michael M. Kamrava. Unable to conceive naturally due to what has been described as three ectopic pregnancies, Suleman had numerous embryos created in a petri dish with semen obtained from a male friend who is at times described as her boyfriend. Suleman’s oldest child is 7 years old.

Her IVF pregnancies all occurred after her on-the-job injury when she was too disabled to work and unemployed, though she also claims prior to injury she worked double-shifts at the mental hospital in Norwalk, saving money or the IVF treatments. Suleman self-reports having spent nearly $100K on IVF alone.

Per Suleman, all 14 of Suleman’s eggs were fertilized the same time, in other words, multiple ovum were harvested and combined with the boyfriends’ sperm and then a huge batch of embryos were frozen for future use.

After her work-related injury she attended Cal State Fullerton and graduated with a B.S. ... in child development in 2006. She also gave birth to the first six children (including a set of twins) with her mother as full-time babysitter. Suleman continued college to finish a master’s degree in counseling, but quit in the spring of 2008, presumably to implant a half-dozen embryos...

The university Nadya Suleman attended is a California State University, and the fees are nowhere near $50K for a four-year degree. The fees at Fullerton are $1,260 for 6.1 or more units; graduate fees are $1,551 for 6.1 or more units. There is simply no way that a person, attending a CSU school, needs that kind of money to attend college unless they are also living on those loan proceeds. (Tuition is paid for by taxpayers’ dollars, hence the relatively low cost of attendance.)

Total yearly costs include allowances for registration fees, books and supplies, room and board, transportation and miscellaneous personal expenses and range from $11,470 for a student living at home to $16,761 for a student living on campus and $17,788 for a student living off campus. Nonresident students must also allow for nonresident tuition in addition to the costs listed above. ...Suleman...claiming she needed a housing allowance yet living with parents since January 2000.

Because the back injury was suffered at work, Nadya Suleman was eligible to receive Temporary Total Disability (TTD) until such time as she is able to go to work or is declared Permanent and Stationary (P&S), meaning the injury has improved as much as it’s going to. At that point, a percentage of total disability is determined and the injured worker receives a cash award paid in installments.

..Suleman has never been declared P&S and had been receiving non-taxed TTD for nearly ten years. TTD was cut off last summer, but not before she’d received $165,000. If a person is injured for more than one year (on-the-job or not), he or she is eligible for social security. That payment currently is around $900 a month. Thus far no one is talking about Suleman receiving this benefit, but she’s eligible to apply...

HOLLYWOOD star Angelina Jolie is said to be "creeped out" by octuplet's mother Nadya Suleman after she received several admiring letters from her and rumours she had plastic surgery to look like the actress.

Suleman’s resemblance to Jolie has sparked rumours that she underwent plastic surgery to look more like the actress and kept expanding her brood in an effort to keep up with Jolie, who has six children with partner Brad Pitt.

Sources have claimed Suleman is so “obsessed” with Jolie that she even sends the her letters. Sources close to Jolie said the 33-year-old Suleman had written to Jolie praising her support of children, the Daily Mail reports. She is said to be irritated by Suleman - and particularly the plastic surgery rumours.

(And note that all eight of the babies have the middle name Angel. Could be just that they are her angels, as she has said. Could she have been "honoring" Angelina by naming her children after her? Her mothers name IS Angela, so that could be her cover. Who know?)

A woman who gave birth to octuplets in California last week has told how she wanted a "huge family" to make up for a lonely childhood.

Unmarried Nadya Suleman, 33, who lives with her mother, now has 14 children - all of whom are the product of a sperm donor.

In her first television interview since the octuplets' birth, Miss Suleman told NBC News that being an only child had left her yearning for human and family connections she felt had been lacking while growing up.

"That was always a dream of mine, to have a large family, a huge family, and - I just longed for certain connections and attachments with another person that I... I really lacked, I believe, growing up," she said.

Miss Suleman added that her childhood had left her feeling a lack of "self and identity".
"I didn't feel as though, when I was a child, I had much control of my environment," she said.
"I felt powerless. And that gave me a sense of predictability.

"Reflecting back on my childhood, I know it wasn't functional. It was pretty - pretty dysfunctional, and whose isn't?"

She said she had tried to get pregnant unsuccessfully for several years before turning to in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Her case has angered fertility experts after it emerged she had eight of her own previously frozen embryos implanted.

Official guidelines from the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) say a woman her age should have no more than two embryos implanted.

Harish Sehdev, associate professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at Pennsylvania hospital, has called the decision to implant eight embryos in a woman who already has six children "insensitive and ignorant".

Multiple-birth babies are often born prematurely - Miss Suleman's octuplets were born nine-and-a-half weeks early - which puts them at significantly greater risk of long-term health problems, Mr Sehdev said.

The Medical Board of California has begun an investigation into the births "to see if we can substantiate a violation of the standard of care".

The babies, delivered on January 26 by Caesarian section, are now the longest-surviving octuplets in the world.

"The babies will be going home one at a time as each reaches near-normal newborn weight," said Mandhir Gupta, neonatalogist at the hospital.

"At this point in their development, they are not mature enough to co-ordinate the suckling and swallowing at the same time to be bottle fed, but they are all getting the love and care they need and are doing well."

The first pictures have been released of the octuplets born to an American mother just two weeks ago.

All eight infants - six boys and two girls - are being cared for in hospital in Los Angeles, as is their mother Nadya Suleman.

In an interview broadcast in the US, Ms Suleman explained she wanted a huge family to make up for the isolation she felt as an only child.

Speaking on NBC's Today programme, the mother confirmed that she already had six other children - four through single pregnancies and twins.

The 33-year-old said she had six embryos implanted for each of her previous pregnancies.

The octuplets were a surprise result of the last round of in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment.
Ms Suleman put her desire for a large family down to the isolation she felt as a child.

She told NBC's Today programme: "I know now that I may or may not have really deep down wanted that many siblings, but at the time I was so focused and fixated on wanting so many that I just kept going."

Asked if she "deluded" herself in thinking her children needed more siblings, the mother replied: "Not deluded myself, but I knew that's what I wanted."

Ms Suleman also defended the one doctor who gave her the treatment, stating that he had done "nothing wrong" and warned her of possible complications of the multiple birth.

The Medical Board of California last week announced that it was investigating the matter to see if "a violation of the standard of care" had taken place.

In a separate interview to the NBC one, the babies' grandmother spoke of how she had pleaded with her daughter's first fertility doctor not to treat Nadya.

She also challenged her daughters comments about feeling isolated as a child, saying: "We raised her in a loving family and her father always spoiled her."

The grandmother also told celebrity news website RadarOnline.com that she was "struggling" to look after her six grandchildren while Nadya remains in hospital following the octuplets' birth.

The six boys and two girls were delivered in late January at the Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Centre in Los Angeles.

It is believed to be only the second case of octuplets surviving more than a few hours.
